There is great change in attendance in class among our fellow girls; most girls come to school even during #menstruation period and never miss lessons.” Deborah and Fatima are the epitome of girl power! At just 13 years old, this dynamicduo is already changing lives in Malawi. Knowing that girls often miss school because of their periods, Deborah and Fatima literally took matters into their own hands and started sewing handmade sanitary pads for their fellow classmates.
Thanks to their ingenious efforts, girls can now go to school while they’re on their periods without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. Deborah and Fatima get the materials they use to make the pads with funding from UNFPA under the Joint United Nations Programme on Girls’ Education, and we couldn’t be prouder of them and what they’re accomplishing.
